Margo Dewar Speaks about OIM’s Street Ministry and Other Outreach Work
CCSAC welcomed Margo Dewar, Managing Director of Ottawa Innercity Ministries, as its April guest speaker. OIM has been serving Ottawa’s marginalized and at risk community for over 30 years. Each year, OIM makes over 10,000 connections on the street in downtown Ottawa; approximately 2,500 of whom are youth. The numbers on the street have grown considerably since the pandemic. Street outreach is the main component of OIM’s work, with a strong emphasis placed on building relationships with the people who are served. Trained volunteers go out meeting and helping people seven nights a week. Innovative programs for street engaged youth, and, more recently, practical support for homeless and at risk veterans are also offered.
