Together in spirit – and still walking

CCSAC will again be hosting a virtual Walk for the Centre this year.

The economic consequences of the COVID shutdown continue to be hard for many of our neighbours in Central Ottawa. We are hoping you will walk virtually with us this year to support food security in Central Ottawa and raise funds for the Centretown Emergency Food Centre. The Centre has operated throughout the pandemic, serving clients 3 days a week.

Virtual Walk for the Centre runs from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 3rd. You can do a solo, 2 or 4 kilometer stroll, a family hike on your favourite trail, or on your treadmill at home!

We encourage you to register and fundraise online this year. Our website allows you to sponsor an individual or a team, or sign up to walk. More details below!

We are still walking this year… but some aspects of our Walkathon will be online again this year.

We will have virtual teams on our ‘Walk For The Centre’ webpage, but we will walk together in spirit only – there won’t be a physical walk together downtown as we usually do. Each participant will walk 2km or 4km anytime between 1-4pm on October 3, in your neighbourhood, favourite trail, or anywhere you’d like to!

How do I get a tax receipt during COVID-19?2021-07-28T21:57:47+00:00

For online donations – CanadaHelps automatically issues a tax receipt.

For donations by cash or cheque – CCSAC, a registered charity, will issue charitable receipts for any donation of $20 or more.  Upon request, we will issue a charitable receipt for lesser amounts.  We will need your sponsor’s email or mailing address in order to send them a tax receipt, so make sure they fill in the Pledge Form.

A reminder that it is easiest to collect donations immediately from your sponsors when you sign them up, rather than trying to chase them down again after the walk.

Where do I walk on Sunday, October 3?2021-07-28T21:58:17+00:00

Up to you!  You are free to walk anywhere you choose on October 3th.

Plan to walk anytime from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Plan your own 2 or 4 km Walk For The Centre, be it in your own neighbourhood or even on the treadmill in your own home!  You are also free to follow one of our traditional routes up to Parliament Hill, or do a hike along one of your favourite trails.

Can I collect donations of food or toiletries?2021-07-28T21:58:48+00:00

Thank you for considering this but, because of COVID-19, the Food Centre is not collecting food or toiletry donations at the moment.
