Richard Johnson of Daybreak Housing discusses supportive housing needs
CCSAC welcomed Richard Johnson. Executive Director of Daybreak Housing since 2019 as its guest speaker in June. Daybreak Housing provides a place to call home for men and women who not only have difficulty finding affordable housing but also struggle with issues such as mental health, addictions, escaping abusive situations and limited life skills. Daybreak was started in 1982 by people from churches in downtown Ottawa, Initially, it operated just one house with 8 rooms. Now there are 5 houses with 47 residents, and it hopes to expand further to meet the pressing need for accommodation in Ottawa.
